A Learning Process of Teaching
Previous Experience
Throughout high school, I spent afternoons and weekends babysitting for different families. I never thought of it as a profession, just an after school job. I got to college and believed I was going to major in Business to become an accountant. Then, I spent all 3 months of my summer at the Little Tree Preschool, volunteering as a Teacher's Aide. I spent my summer days in a classroom with both typical and atypical children. That summer, I changed my major because if I could spend an entire summer working for free at a job that normally paid $10 an hour, I could do this for the rest of my life. I enjoyed myself that entire summer and I've gone back to volunteer at the Little Tree multiple times and enjoyed myself. I'm working part-time with a few of the families I met through the Little Tree and continuing to work with children with special needs.
My first teaching job was with Russell County School District. I was able to create my own classroom environment at Mount Olive Primary School. I was extremely blessed to work along side a great team of first grade teachers as well as the rest of the faculty. The best thing about my time at the district was being a part of something that was bigger than myself. I knew that everyone in that district was working towards a better future for those students. I feel honored to have known each and every person within that district. I learned a lot about myself and teaching.
My second year of teaching was at the Little H.A.P.I.E Tree Preschool as a lead teacher in an inclusive classroom. I got the chance to work with an amazing group of people and children. I learned a lot through the year including writing my first IEP's, running assessments, and meeting and creating individualized goals for the students.
I was hired as the lead teacher in an OSR based preschool in Eufaula City Schools. I was able to work with a diverse populations of students and staff. We used conscious discipline, center based teaching, and GOLD observations to provide a unique early learning experience.
I served as 3rd grade teacher in a Title 1 school, providing high quality education to students in Montgomery. I worked closely with fellow teachers and administrators to create engaging lessons and learn innovating methods to incorporate technology to promote student engagement. I served as the Co-chair of the PBIS team in my 2nd year.
